Not only in the current hard rock/metal scene, more and more young bands, among them many German groups (such as Wucan), are referring back to the Krautrock era, which is now much more appreciated. Of course, the term is not directly a style, because hard rock, jazz and fusion were once almost assigned to this style. Besides electronic pioneers like Can, Tangerine Dream or Kraftwerk, there were also groups that can be described as rock: Jane, Birth Control or Lucifer's Friend are just three examples. On "German Rock", you will also find one of the first groups: Floh De Cologne, who were already offering rock in the German language in the early seventies. The hard rockers Mass from Regensburg delivered their first album, which also appears on "German Rock", in 1977. The rest of this unusual compilation, which is only available on vinyl, concerns late groups who, in the early eighties, still offered a sound that could have been born a few years earlier. Indeed, at least two songs were written in the late seventies, but the recording contract or the capital needed for self-pressing arrived "too late". Many of these exciting groups like Iris, Cannock or Sphinx were no longer in tune with the times when they appeared, and therefore had little chance, or only local chances. Today, enthusiasts and the curious are searching for these unknown groups that revive a bygone era. Handmade music, not only live, but also in the recording studio. The early 80s groups featured on this compilation may remind some of regional heroes, as could still be seen in the 80s in local gymnasiums... Nostalgia is not the main concern of this LP, but the preservation of precious music, which was not released by the major labels of the time.
