Created by the late Henri Debs at the end of the 1950s, Disque Debs produced 200 albums over more than 50 years of history, covering many styles ranging from biguine to bolero, as well as zouk and reggae. Debs unquestionably played a central role in the globalization of Creole music and its opening to an ever-wider audience. Volume 1 of this series, compiled by Hugo Mendez (Sofrito) and Emile Omar (Tropical Discoteq and ex Radio Nova), in collaboration with Henri Debs Et Fils and Air Caraïbes, focuses on the label's first decade of existence, marked by big bands and local stars, touring groups passing through Guadeloupe, as well as a whole new generation of artists who emerged at the end of the 1960s. It notably features saxophonist Edouard Benoit, leader of Les Maxels; large orchestras such as Orchestre Esperanza; and the gwo ka artist Sydney Lérémon.
