Naya Beat presents the reissue of a true holy grail: Punjabi Disco, a masterpiece by Mohinder Kaur Bhamra released in 1982. Considered the first British Asian electronic dance album, it fell into obscurity, much like the cult acid house opus Ten Ragas To A Disco Beat by Charanjit Singh, released the same year. Recorded in London by Mohinder with her sons — including Kuljit Bhamra, a future bhangra pioneer — the album blends disco, funk, acid house and Punjabi folk melodies. Her powerful vocals unfold over Roland drum machines, hypnotic basslines and psychedelic synth pads. The album remained unavailable until the rediscovery of its original tapes in 2020. Carefully remastered, it is reissued as a double vinyl edition and accompanied by remixes from Peaking Lights, Baalti, Mystic Jungle, Psychemagik and Danger Boys, as well as a cover by Piya Malik (Say She She) and an unreleased track.
