At Newport 1955 & 1958

Description

Founded in 1954 in Newport, Rhode Island, the Newport Jazz Festival has become one of the most famous jazz festivals in the world. Immortalized in 1958 in Bert Stern's film "Jazz on a Summer's Day," it has hosted momentous events in jazz history, including Miles Davis's 1955 performance of "'Round Midnight," which relaunched his career. Featured here are his first two performances at Newport: the 1955 performance with Gerry Mulligan, Zoot Sims, and Thelonious Monk, and the 1958 performance with John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Bill Evans, Paul Chambers, and Jimmy Cobb.
