A Tribute To Jack Johnson

Description

Right in the midst of his jazz fusion period, with *In A Silent Way* in 1969 and *Bitches Brew* the following year, Miles Davis was asked to compose the music for the documentary *A Tribute to Jack Johnson*. A boxing enthusiast and amateur boxer himself, he composed it in two tracks heavily influenced by 70s rock (newcomer Billy Cobham's powerful drumming was instrumental in this), which went unnoticed upon their release. Noteworthy is the importance of the celebrated producer Teo Macero, Miles's true eminence grise, in the editing and mixing of the record.
