AFTER THE END
You may have already heard of Merchandise, the DIY trio from Tampa.
They started very early (2008) and already have two albums and three EPs under their belt.
Merchandise has toured extensively and played highly acclaimed shows that created a buzz, notably at SXSW in 2013.
After the End is their 3rd album and their first on 4AD. They define it as the album of change, as singer Carson told NME: “Total Nite (their 2nd album) was the end of the book.
This is a brand new book. It’s like we’re starting a new band with a different name. We’ve already explored our reality, now we’re going to reinvent ourselves as a pop band.”
After the End lives up to its promises, with its 10 songs, somewhere between the heyday of The Smiths and Jesus & Mary Chain.
They have also added 2 members to their trio and are now five: Carson Cox (vocals
guitar), David Vassalotti (guitar), Patrick Brady (bass), Chris Horn (guitar
keyboard
saxophone) and Elsner Niño (drums).
The album was recorded in 6 months, in the house the band shares in Tampa. It was mixed by Gareth Jones, known for his work with Depeche Mode and more recently with Interpol and Grizzly Bear, to name but a few.
