Formed in Cardiff in the late 1990s by Andrew Falkous (vocals), Mat Harding (drums), and Jon Chapple (bass), mclusky self-produced and released ''My Pain and Sadness and Is More Sad and Painful Than Yours'' on Fuzzbox in 2000, before signing with Too Pure, which reissued it in 2003. This first album, effective, short, and unfiltered, helped put mclusky on the radar of the entire United Kingdom, beyond the capital of Wales. With the singles ''Joy'' and ''Rice is Nice'', they contributed. Remastered by Sean Magee at Abbey Road Studios.
