The album « The Max Roach Trio Featuring the Legendary Hasaan » is a compilation by American jazz drummer Max Roach and pianist Hasaan Ibn Ali, recorded in 1964 and released in 1965. It is a classic of the genre, and it is fortunate that it existed. It is tragic, however, that Hasaan never recorded again and quickly fell into obscurity. This record is the only one where Hasaan can be heard on piano. We owe this miraculous session to Max Roach, which allows us to discover new pianistic sonorities, halfway between Art Tatum and Thelonious Monk, and we regret not having access to his entire discography. The production of this album is a true gem. But beyond its historical significance, it is the music itself that is remarkable, and the term "legendary and energetic" seems entirely appropriate.
