SIX DEGREES/LIMITED

Description

Six Degrees, the debut album by Mark de Clive-Lowe released in 2000, embodies the foundational essence of broken beat, club-jazz, and future soul. Blending jazz-fusion, house, jungle, hip-hop, and Afro-Cuban rhythms through instruments like the Fender Rhodes, synthesizers, and an MPC2000, the album marries live improvisation and rhythmic precision with pioneering audacity. Initially released in New Zealand, the album gained international recognition through Universal Jazz UK. Twenty-five years later, Six Degrees is reborn with a limited vinyl reissue of 400 copies, celebrated by Be With Records as a musical milestone and the starting point of a prolific international career. The result of a sabbatical year in 1998 funded by a grant, the album is the outcome of an initiatory journey through San Francisco, Havana, London, and New York. This musical and human journey nurtured a deeply hybrid and innovative work—both a sonic travelogue and a manifesto of artistic exploration.
