The eleven songs on the album blend radioactive kisses, painful meditations on desire, and vaporous daydreams about self-image. The music has a sound that is both tumultuous and complex: 60s soul samples melt into warm drum and bass percussion, glitch pulses snapping over a screeching synth, and Blaney's vocals oscillate between blazing punk exclamations and soft, exploratory chants. It is the sound of a singer scrutinizing her inner self and pre-sensing the world with everything she finds, unmixed, in real time. Blaney produced this new project with a tight-knit team of three producers: Emerson Fossett, Harlan Steed (Show Me The Body), and Alex Farrar (MJ Lenderman, Wednesday, Squirrel Flower, Snail Mail). Blaney had only just started playing guitar and producing when she began writing the songs that would make up the album. Being a novice at production and guitar opened up a sense of exploration and freedom for her. She felt encouraged to use bolder riffs and original arrangements while writing. A Room With A Door That Closes is a collection of songs that rigorously seek honesty, presenting feelings as they arise, without rushing to categorize or explain them.
