'Frozen Silence', the third album by alto saxophonist Maciej Obara's Polish-Norwegian quartet for ECM, available on vinyl.
Interactivity and collective responsiveness are at the heart of the aesthetic proposed by the group in Obara's new program of compositions, inspired by the dramatic beauty of the mountainous landscapes of the Karkonosze region in southwestern Poland. All four musicians contribute equally to the development of the music on this album, with each piece optimally showcasing the almost intuitive relationship between Maciej and pianist Dominik Wania, while double bassist Ole Morten Vågan and drummer Gard Nilssen continually transcend their roles within the rhythm section to inject new dynamics into the discourse. 'Frozen Silence' was recorded in Oslo in June 2022, under the artistic direction of Manfred Eicher.
