'The Book of Secrets' is Loreena McKennitt's 6th album, released in 1997. This album stays true to the formula that made 'The Visit' and 'The Mask and Mirror' so successful: a succession of vocal and instrumental tracks, sometimes soft and slow, sometimes rhythmic and lively, open to influences from Celtic, Mediterranean, and Eastern folk traditions. This album was recorded at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios in the UK, and produced by Loreena herself. It includes the track "The Mummer's Dance", as well as the famous "Marco Polo". It features musicians who have played with Peter Gabriel, including David Rhodes (guitar) and Manu Katché (drums). Loreena herself plays piano, keyboards, harp of course, and accordion.
