Music By Lee Mason

Description

Wewantsounds is delighted to reissue *Music By Lee Mason*, the cult album from the Chappell label, originally released in the UK in 1971. Credited to Lee Mason & His Orchestra, it is in fact the work of British composer and arranger Pete Moore, famous for the film theme "Asteroid" (1968). Blending cinematic atmospheres and jazz-funk grooves, the album notably includes "Shady Blues," sampled by Madlib, and features liner notes by Kevin Le Gendre. Recorded at the dawn of the 1970s, Moore, under the pseudonym Lee Mason, fully utilizes the sound palette he masters: funky rhythms, powerful brass, punchy basslines, and catchy melodies. Across the eleven tracks, he navigates between funk grooves, jazzy arrangements, and cinematic atmospheres, offering a sophisticated and captivating sound, always sought after by library music enthusiasts. Pete Moore (1924–2013) made his mark on the English scene by collaborating with Peggy Lee, Fred Astaire, and Connie Francis, while showcasing the expertise of British arrangers from the 60s and 70s. Remastered for vinyl by Colorsound Studio, this reissue of *Music By Lee Mason* restores all the richness and energy of the album, now brought back into vogue for diggers and lovers of timeless grooves.
