After a remarkable collaboration in 2016 with Vincent Segal, Japanese pianist Koki Nakano is back with his very first solo album. With its assumed minimalism and disdain for showy virtuosity, *Pre-Choreographed* has the elegance of saying a lot with the most precise economy of means. And while his music here dreams of being joined by dance, it never presents itself as a mere sketch. In the vibrant suspense created by this desire for bodies and movements, Koki Nakano's writing, on the contrary, finds its full vital impetus and reaches its quintessence. He offers a rich pianistic palette composed of forms, harmonies, and rhythms, enriched with electronic effects and textures. Alternately melancholic or feverish, evasive or lightning-fast, the pieces are a way of transcribing into notes and sounds the fabric of Koki Nakano's sensitive experience, true microcosms of the soul. Fifteen years after Gonzales' famous *Solo Piano*, the Nø Førmat! label adds another significant chapter to the history of piano mavericks.
