Butterfly
Description
Oh yes! First official reissue of the sublime and very rare LP Butterfly, recorded in Tokyo in 1979 by Japanese singer Kimiko Kasai and jazz legend Herbie Hancock.Due to its extremely rare status as an exclusive Japanese release, this beautiful collection of covers never received the recognition it deserved at the time, despite the incredibly inspired performances by Kimiko, Herbie, and the extremely talented musicians assembled for the project. From the celestial drummer Alphonse Mouzon and the renowned organist Webster Lewis to bassist Paul Jackson, reed player Bennie Maupin, and master percussionist Bill Summers, the legendary performers created incredibly good vocal versions of Herbie / Headhunters jazz-funk.Unsurprisingly, it has been in high demand for many years. This carefully curated reissue allows for a long-overdue reappraisal of this previously unavailable masterpiece. The stunning artwork that adorned the original jacket - with OBI strip and sumptuous 4-page folded insert - has been faithfully restored. The sensitive mastering by Simon Francis elevates the sound throughout and, as always, it has been pressed to a reassuring weight of 180g.
