Keith Hudson, nicknamed the "Dark Prince of Reggae", passed away in 1984 at the age of 38. That same year, he recorded his best tracks (including 6 tracks from the album "RastaCommunication", considered one of the best Reggae albums of all time) at Tuff Gong Studio with the Wailers and King Jammy at the controls. A look back at his career: In 1968, he made his musical debut by recording vocals on Olympic Records' Rocksteady riddims, such as "Old Broom" and "You Must be Popular". The critical success of these first 45s earned him access to a recording studio. His first recording session led to Ken Boothe's production of the original "Old Fashioned Way", which inspired Dennis Alcapone's "Spanish Omega" and U-Roy's "Dynamic Fashion Way". In the following months, he worked with singers Delroy Wilson, Alton Ellis, Bunny Gale, and John Holt. His early DJ productions included many songs with Dennis Alcapone and U-Roy, and Big Youth's "S 90 Skank", released in 1972, quickly became his biggest hit as a DJ. He also contributed greatly to the development of Dub.
