The Fellowship - Vinyle Bleu Ciel

Description

On The Fellowship, Toronto saxophonist Joseph Shabason blends spacious, jazzy compositions with contemporary tones. Across eight tracks, the artist draws an auditory map illustrating the transcendence, unity, conditioning, and eventual renunciation of an upbringing marked by both Muslim and Jewish duality. The album, The Fellowship, takes its name from the insular Muslim community from which Shabason's Jewish parents originate. This duality of faith created a constant mental and spiritual contradiction within Joseph, one that continues to shape, and sometimes even control, the construction of his worldview. The Fellowship follows a chronological arc spanning three generations, covering his parents' youth, his own spiritual and physical adolescence, and the artist's subsequent struggle to avoid problematic addictions caused by his conflicted past. Like his previous projects, Joseph Shabason offers here what only the best instrumentalists are capable of: a story told with immense emotional clarity, conveying even the most subtle feelings without singing a single word. Voiceless but with more complex themes than ever, this album appears to be his most emotionally articulate project. More importantly, all those lost through the repression and self-doubt that religion can engender now have The Fellowship to guide them to the end of the tunnel.
