In July 2022, folk legend Joni Mitchell returned to the stage at the Newport Folk Festival, after a 20-year absence and 54 years after her first appearance there! Accompanied by country star Brandi Carlile, she delivered an unprecedented performance of her greatest hits. This live set can be found on her new album 'At Newport'. Joni Mitchell has largely stepped back from music since suffering a brain aneurysm rupture in 2015. In 2022, she made a rare public appearance at the Grammy Awards, where she was honored as the 2022 MusiCares Person of the Year and received a trophy for Best Historical Album for her retrospective album, 'Joni Mitchell Archives, Vol 1: The Early Years (1963-1967)'. At Newport, Joni Mitchell performed, as expected, seated on a throne. Throughout the evening, Brandi Carlile, Marcus Mumford, Wynonna Judd, Lucius, Blake Mills, Taylor Goldsmith, and others took turns performing their favorite Joni Mitchell songs. The Canadian folk singer herself sang several times, notably on "A Case of You" and "Just Like This Train". She also played a guitar solo during "Just Like This Train".
