Description

After moving from Kentucky to Tulsa when he was 10, John explored hardcore and punk during his high school years before being drawn to the lyricism of folk and country music. Moreland has not stopped composing meticulously and prodigiously, releasing self-produced albums every two years since 2011. His solo performances (notably the one on Colbert in 2016) and the resulting word-of-mouth played a major role in the peak of his career, and since the end of the tour for his recent album 'High On Tulsa Heat', he now lives entirely from his music. His 4th album and first on 4AD, 'Bid Bad Luv', was recorded in Little Rock, Arkansas, a large part of it with his Tulsa band: John Calvin Abney (piano and guitar), Aaron Boehler (bass), Paddy Ryan (drums), Jared Tyler (Dobro), and Rick Steff (piano). The final arrangements for the album were made by Grammy-winning Tchad Blake, who has collaborated with Al Green and Tom Waits.
