After filming a new phantasmagorical work (Inland Empire, 2006), David Lynch abandoned cinema in favor of musical composition and plastic arts. The American director's initiative reportedly fueled the inspiration of a filmmaker with analogous obsessions and projects: John Carpenter is thus preparing to unveil Lost Themes, a first solo album (and not the soundtrack of a new cinematic work), released - like David Lynch's - by Sacred Bones Records. "I was used to illustrating images, which can be both positive and negative. This time, there was no pressure, no untimely demands from actors, no staff waiting, no imminent deadlines. [...] The initial idea was to produce something quite substantial, quite generous, given the lack of restrictions. It's a new world opening up to me." Assisted by Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies (who composed the soundtrack for I, Frankenstein), the New York director produced an ominous collection. The American artist thus hopes, in turn, to fuel the ambition and works of certain (young) directors, inspired by Carpenter's Lost Themes.
