Joao Gilberto, full name Joao Gilberto Prado Pereira de Oliveira, is a Brazilian musician, considered the primary creator of bossa nova. He achieved great success in Brazil with the song "Chega de saudade" in 1958. It was truly in 1962 that his success became international with his performance of "Garota de Ipanema," accompanied by Stan Getz, now an international song sung in multiple languages by many prestigious artists such as Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and Ella Fitzgerald. Today, Joao Gilberto continues to give concerts around the world. Joao Gilberto is also the father of Brazilian singer Bebel Gilberto.
