Tet 41 is the new album by modular synthesist and Berghain resident JakoJako (Sibel Koçer), marking her first album on Mute. Recorded during a trip to Vietnam and framed by field recordings of the Lunar New Year Tet celebrations, the album is steeped in references to Koçer's heritage. Her melodic palette moves away from traditional Western scales to draw on the tonal subtleties of the Vietnamese language, inspired by overheard conversations. The album and track titles also pay homage to the vibrant Tet festivities, the sanctuaries, and the iconic places she discovered along her journey. This album is, in many ways, a distillation of ideas she has been exploring for years. Drawing on a deep understanding of electronic music, and conceived with a minimalist setup consisting of a Eurorack and a Waldorf Iridium Core, Tet41 explores notions of rebirth and the quest for a sonic essence. From this simplicity emerge some of her most expansive and otherworldly compositions to date.
