RED & BLACK LIGHT

Description

“Kalthoum” and “Red & Black Light” are two albums paying tribute to women. “RED & BLACK LIGHT” is an ode to today’s woman and her fundamental and foundational role in hoping for a better future. The women in my family have had, and still have today, an immeasurable influence on all my musical work. This is particularly because they inspire me greatly in how they manage their daily lives and those of the people around them. Despite complex and often dramatic lives resembling labyrinths, they carry within them a strength and stability similar to an unshakeable trance. They give me the impression of never losing sight of what is essential. Focused on a more contemporary, more electro, even pop aesthetic, this album consists of my compositions as well as a cover of today’s diva, Beyoncé. Although particularly complex in their writing (with polyrhythms in 19, 17, or 27 beats, for example), we arranged these pieces (with the 3 musicians who surround me) in such a way that the weight of the writing is never heard. We thus avoided the trap of elitism and scientific writing to create a transparent and clear album, on which the public can even dance or sing, but which nevertheless abounds in a multitude of unsuspected layers of themes, harmonies, and rhythms, which only a mathematical reading of the album could reveal. Recorded in Ivry-sur-Seine (France) with Eric Legnini (Keyboards), François Delporte (Guitar), and Stéphane Galland (Drums), this album is above all a desire to illustrate the importance and necessary complexity of essential things and people.
