AU PAYS D'ALICE...

Description

“I propose to follow the musical story chronologically. I asked Oxmo Puccino, an artist with a modern and contemporary vision of literature, to choose the most striking elements from each chapter, in order to highlight them and bring them to life for the duration of a song. This adaptation is accompanied by a student orchestra from the Orchestre du Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris Pôle Supérieur Boulogne, the Maîtrise de Radio France, and some of the loyal musicians from my band (Guitar, Drums, Bass, Keyboards). Lewis Carroll's narrative is an ode to the irrational and the absurd. So I wanted to move towards a universe that holds together but also operates according to a "non-logic" of things. Oxmo Puccino is the ideal candidate for this kind of exercise. His albums, constructed like fascinating stories, give a glimpse of the result of his perspective on this globally revisited work. I believe that song, accompanied here by Rap, is a mode that allows for symbiosis with this approach. Opposite this voice, the trumpet I play, which allows me to move from jazz to classical and Arab music, is a vector of writing that leads me more and more often today to use it as a catalyst of styles and environments. With the orchestra and choirs, the dimension of this project gives a contemporary and mixed-race musician like me, coming from Arab and Western cultures, as well as a modern author, rap singer of African and French origin, the opportunity to build the framework of a true modern and multicultural opera.” Ibrahim Maalouf
