After a first album, "Il suffit d’y croire," released in 2018 and selling over 200,000 copies, the artist dubbed the new "star" of French chanson (a reference to her stage name, which means "star" in Japanese) has released her second opus. This new album, titled "Sommeil levant," was conceived in the tour bus during a tour of over 140 dates across France. Nominated for the Victoires de la Musique as "Stage Revelation," Hoshi writes all her songs, showcasing her status as a singer-songwriter. But 14 tracks weren't enough; Hoshi still had much to say. She completed this second album with a re-release featuring 13 new tracks, titled "Étoile flippante." In it, she tackles more personal themes, such as her youth ("Enfant clown"), forgiveness ("J’te pardonne"), her fears and anxieties ("Étoile flippante," "Pas de cadeaux"), and love remains a recurring subject that she describes in all its forms ("Et même après je t’aimerai," "Nos jeux amoureux," "Frissons"). A re-release with colorful sounds, in which Hoshi reconnects with the guitar of her beginnings, as in "Il était une toi," or sings about her desire for the stage on "Allez-là." After Gaëtan Roussel and Corinne, there are also wonderful collaborations, sometimes with a legend of French chanson such as Benjamin Biolay ("Pleurs de fumoirs"), a more urban duo with FIVE, a young rapper with an extraordinary story ("J’attends mon heure"), and a feature with her Babouchka ("Mieux avant") which evokes the contrast between generations. This last collaboration perhaps resonates most deeply in Hoshi's heart, as her grandparents played a major role in her development as a musical artist. It is through the 27 tracks that make up "Étoile flippante" that we truly get to know Hoshi. A poetic and incisive album, reflecting the journey of this artist who is far from done making headlines.
