Universal Music reactivates the legendary label Impulse! to which jazz music owes so much. Numerous original or unreleased projects will soon mark the revival of the famous label with an exclamation point. Henry Butler, Steven Bernstein, and their Hot 9 will open the Impulse! release schedule by revisiting the music of New Orleans, Jelly Roll Morton, and Fats Waller with Viper's Drag, an incredibly retro-modern album. After settling in Brooklyn following his departure from New Orleans due to Hurricane Katrina, singer and pianist Henry Butler could not miss the opportunity to collaborate sooner or later with trumpeter Steven Bernstein. Blind from birth, a virtuoso pianist and singer, Henry Butler is a true storyteller with his playing, which is infused with jazz, Caribbean, classical, pop, blues, and R&B sounds. Accompanied by their powerhouse band, the Hot 9, Butler and Bernstein take traditional New Orleans music as a starting point to lead experiments of all kinds, ranging from early 20th-century blues to stunning improvisations.
