A vocal icon of swing, singer Helen Humes first made her name with Count Basie’s orchestra. Under the direction of bandleader Marty Paich, 'Songs I Like to Sing!', her second recording for the Contemporary Records label released in 1961, offers definitive interpretations of standards.
It features tracks such as "You’re Driving Me Crazy", "If I Could Be With You" and "Million Dollar Secret", performed by an all-star backing band including Art Pepper (saxophone), Leroy Vinnegar (double bass), Shelly Manne (drums), Barney Kessel (guitar) and pianist André Previn.
This re-release is part of the “Contemporary Records Acoustic Sounds” audiophile collection and features new analog mastering from the master tapes by Bernie Grundman, as well as the original artwork and liner notes in meticulous packaging.
