Two women speaking completely different languages who had a wonderful conversation! The Endless Dance is the first collaborative album by Northern Irish producer and composer Hannah Peel and Chinese percussionist Beibei Wang. The album draws on the strength of ancient concepts but comes to life through the joy and freedom of play, as Peel and Wang journey together through the 24 solar terms of the Chinese calendar with a profusion of sounds: synths and prepared piano accompanied by traditional and unconventional percussion. The album is a collage of recordings made over five days at the legendary rural studio Real World, a setting that matched the duo's inspiration drawn from the natural world, thus creating a permanent record of their shared musical landscape, influenced by the flora and fauna that appear and disappear with the seasons. The Endless Dance certainly represents a radical shift from the duo's shared classical origins, but their knowledge and training also underpin their free audacity, giving them the confidence to trust their instincts. The Endless Dance is unpredictable and unexpected, partly thanks to the sincere curiosity and outside perspectives each musician brought to the sessions. The Endless Dance is a major work by two accomplished and singular artists, but it is also the sound of mutual curiosity and shared pleasure.
