In convergence liberation

Description

The Iranian saxophonist HAFEZ MODIRZADEH trained under MAHMOUD ZOUFOUNOUN, who taught him the twelve modes of dastgâh, the Persian musical tradition. Co-signer with AMIR ELSAFFAR of the luminous Radif Suite (PI 32), the author of Post-Chromodal Out ! (PI 44), his previous album under his own name, has crossed paths in the past with DON CHERRY, PETER APFELBAUM, and FRED HO. The seven chamber music pieces that make up In Convergence Liberation combine Persian modes with the Arab-Hispanic tradition, Iraqi maqâms, and Andalusian poetry as well as the infinite resources of the classical string quartet. RALPH FARRIS, first violin and founder of ETHEL, a renowned quartet in the United States for its expertise in the contemporary field, speaks of HAFEZ MODIRZADEH as a visionary musician.
