With their furious sound and wild tracks, the four girls of Goat Girl have for some time been establishing themselves as the figurehead of a small number of young bands from South London's burgeoning scene.
In 19 tracks and 40 minutes, Goat Girl's eponymous debut album produced by Dan Carey (Franz Ferdinand) crafts an almost wondrous universe from the dirty reality of their city: "It's an album that comes from growing up in London and the first-hand experience of our city’s devolution.” This world is one of scoundrels, liars, lovers, dreamers, and madmen.
It's a very British album – incisive observations reminiscent of The Kinks, the same dissolute anger as The Slits… But the record also gives pride of place to boastful, muddy guitars and Lottie’s drawling, deliberately and deliciously grimy voice.
