Hotel Paral.lel, released in 1997, marks the first album by Austrian Christian Fennesz, originally published by MEGO, following the trembling drone found on the 1995 EP Instrument, also included in this deluxe 2LP reissue. Once launched, Hotel Paral.lel was to initiate a sublime exploration of a wide variety of forms, from formal abstraction to shimmering drone to glitch pop ground zero. Recorded just before mobile computing devices became ubiquitous, it was an investigation into the sonic possibilities of guitar-based digital music. It is an exquisite radical field of free-form noise, sharp techno rhythms, and subtle ambient texture, all brought together to create a timeless work. There are few things in the world of music, even to this day, that vaguely resemble Hotel Paral.lel.
