Breach

Description

Discover the addictive folk-pop of Dead Oceans' new signing. Isolation is nothing new for English musician Fenne Lily, who started making music after falling in love with PJ Harvey, Nick Drake and Joni Mitchell – she even wrote an album about it during a period of voluntary isolation before the virus reached its current scale: Breach, her first album to be released on Dead Oceans. Breach is like an expansive, often sardonic, diary that deals with the messiness that comes with entering one’s twenties and finding peace alone. The album title came to her during long conversations with her mother about her birth. The double-sided nature of the word – which, written with an "A", means "to break through" – appealed to her. "That's what I'm doing on this record; I'm breaking through a wall I built myself and facing those feelings of loneliness and isolation. I realised I'm comfortable with myself, and I don't need to fixate on relationships to feel like I have something to say." Even though it also implies awkwardness, rebellion and rupture, it's a word with a broader scope: new beginnings and rebirth.
