Obsolete is the third studio album by American industrial metal band Fear Factory, released in 1998. Produced by Fear Factory, Greg Reely, and Rhys Fulber, with Fulber also writing, arranging, and performing all keyboard parts, it is the band's first full-length album with bassist Christian Olde Wolbers. Musically, this album allowed Fear Factory to experiment with its own sound and is the band's first full-fledged concept album. Obsolete revolves around a story written by vocalist Burton C. Bell, "Conception 5," which takes place in 2076 when machines have taken over humanity. Obsolete propelled Fear Factory to mainstream recognition and remains their best-selling album.
