Japandroids return with "Fate and Alcohol": a vibrant and energetic final album. After a seven-year absence, Japandroids return with "Fate and Alcohol," their fourth and final album. Written in part during their 2017 tour for "Near to the Wild Heart of Life," this album marks both a return to their roots and an exciting step forward for the Vancouver duo. Brian King (guitar-vocals) and David Prowse (drums-vocals) sought to create songs they would love to play live, without sacrificing the nuance and ambition of their previous album. The single "Chicago" perfectly embodies this energy, with romantic chords and snare drum explosions. Recorded in Vancouver with their long-time collaborator Jesse Gander, the album captures the raw essence of their music. "The first demo of 'Chicago' recorded in 2020 already sounded like the final version," says King. "That's the ideal situation for us: to have a track that rips right from the start, something truly exciting." "Fate and Alcohol" is a testament to their chemistry after 18 years and hundreds of concerts, including a Pitchfork Festival in Paris last year and a sold-out show at La Maroquinerie in 2018 to support their previous album.
