Until We Are Free is the debut album by fabric, a collective of musicians from diverse backgrounds, united by a common goal: fusing irresistible rhythms and grooves with a direct and committed message, highlighting the contradictions of modern life. The very name of the project evokes the idea of a living and dynamic ensemble: a creative interweaving of different threads, of musical genres, with founding musicians or guest collaborators, all actively integrated into the social fabric. The album blends funk, soul, and afrobeat with a contemporary and incisive urban attitude, creating a sound that acts both as a form of sonic resistance and an invitation to dance. It follows in the lineage of artists such as Fela Kuti, ESG, The Comet Is Coming, Sault, and Jungle. At the heart of the project lies the conviction that music and civic engagement can coexist harmoniously, without ever falling into didacticism. While the lyrics, entirely in English, address themes of rights, equality, and freedom, the groove remains the beating heart: constant, vibrant, and relentless. Mixed by Tom Campbell (who has notably worked with Sault, Little Simz, Adele, Michael Kiwanuka, and Jungle) and directed by Raissa Pardini, Until We Are Free is the soundtrack of a complex era.
