"La Chanson De Duke" sheds light on one of the most enigmatic aspects of Duke Ellington's personality. This great man, composer, pianist, and conductor, exceptionally creative and original, seems not to have really realized that he was also among the great American songwriters of his century! Claude Carrière, a great specialist in the history of jazz and more particularly of Duke, has therefore set out through the 105 tracks in this box set to reveal to us, abundantly, the best of Ellington's songs and those of Billy Strayhorn and the musicians associated with their work. Claude Carrière was a radio producer on France Musique from 1975 to 2008 (notably "Jazz Club" from 1982 to 2008) and a journalist for the magazines Jazz Hot (1968-1980), Jazzman, Jazz Magazine. He is also co-author of the Akai Guide to Jazz (1979-1985), the author-designer of numerous series of records for RCA, Masters Of Jazz, Dreyfus Jazz, Vogue, Sagajazz, Black and Blue, BD Jazz, CABU, Cristal Records (Original Sound Deluxe collection), etc. He is also Honorary President of the Académie du Jazz, Honorary President of the association La Maison du Duke, President of the association Grands Formats for the promotion of large jazz orchestras, and a member of the Académie Charles Cros. Finally, Claude Carrière is a pianist, a specialist in the repertoire of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn.
