On At Tubby’s, Dougie Poole performs stripped-down live versions of his signature songs in a venue beloved by musicians for its intimate atmosphere and acoustics, as well as the exceptional welcome they receive while on tour. For the band, it was one of those nights where the music, the audience, and the space merge. The recording was made directly from the soundboard, with minimal post-production mixing by Dougie himself. This live version features core members Mike Etten on electric guitar and Connor “Catfish” Gallaher on pedal steel. On the first track of the evening, “Los Angeles,” Etten’s classic country riffs and Catfish’s soaring slide lines perfectly complement Dougie’s formidable acoustic work and golden baritone. They tackle some of Dougie’s most beloved tracks, from rave songs to country ballads. Some tracks might be new to fans of Dougie’s latest albums. “Toshiba Sky” is a standalone digital single from 2020, and “Wild Motion” is a track Dougie wrote for the Los Angeles band Drugdealer, who recorded it for their 2020 album Raw Honey. Live at Tubby’s also marks the first recorded appearance of a new Dougie composition, “Heaven Sent an Angel,” which closes the concert on a moving note. At Tubby’s transports the listener to a different place and time, and is sure to delight fans, old and new.
