Byrd In Paris
Description
Originally recorded for radio in 1958 at the Olympia, this exceptional concert, initiated by Frank Ténot and Daniel Filippachi, was released a year later under the impetus of François Postif. At that time, trumpeter Donald Byrd and his group were touring Europe and had set up camp in Paris at the 'Chat qui pêche'. That evening, the musicians, in no way impressed by this grand stage, played as if in a club with 'formidable' energy. This quintet shines, among other things, through its spirited interpretation of 'Dear Old Stockholm'. Fluid and lyrical, Byrd plays with elegance, in a hard bop style without aggression, to which Bobby Jaspar responds, whose phrasing on the tenor saxophone proves here more extroverted than that of the leader.Recorded in 1958 at the Olympia, Paris.Buy Byrd In Paris at the best price
