Home Boy, Sister Out

Description

THE CULT ALBUM FROM 1985PRODUCED BY RAMUNTCHO MATTAAfter a stint in New York, where he absorbed the downtown scene between 1978 and 1980, producer Ramuntcho Matta returned to Paris and chanced upon American trumpeter Don Cherry at a concert. It was love at first sight. Surrounded by a group of first-class musicians, they recorded Home Boy, Sister Out in the spring of 1985 for Barclay, under the artistic direction of Philippe Constantin. Recorded in the legendary Studio Caroline, this album embodies the eclectic spirit of 1980s Paris, as prophesied by Nova. Featuring legendary Senegalese drummer Abdoulaye Prosper Niang (Xalam), Negrito Trasante, Elli Medeiros, and bassist Jannick Top (Magma), the album is a fascinating blend of New York avant-funk, jazz, new-wave, reggae, and West African music. Don Cherry's love for the song format shines through. This re-release includes a handful of bonus tracks from Ramuntcho Matta's vaults, including the superb 1983 single "Kick," featuring avant-garde poet Brion Gysin. An essay by French journalist Jacques Denis is included.
