« I made F10RIDA between a small apartment in Philadelphia and my mother's house in Florida. (...) Making this record created a whole new world for me. (...) This record represents the first 23 years of my life - who I was, where I came from so I am eager to dive back into it. - DIPLOIn a distant time, in 2000, the Big Dada office, which was looking for "avant-garde dancehall," received a package from a young man named Wesley Pentz. The CDR contained a series of demos that would form the basis of DIPLO's first album, F10RIDA.DIPLO's genius was already evident - an ear for finding the killer sample and a sharp sense of beat programming, combined in a totally unprecedented way. Eventually, they signed him for an instrumental album, but Wes decided that the record needed more vocal parts, so he went to get them, from the favelas of Rio to Los Angeles, from London to Kingston. During one of his stops in London, he met M.I.A, and the mixtape he made for her, Piracy Funds Terrorism, created a global shockwave. This was, of course, just the beginning of Pentz's rapid rise.F10RIDA represents DIPLO's most intimate work, less focused on the dancefloor and more atmospheric, (notably because it was mixed with a simple pair of headphones, with no money for speakers or a proper studio).
