Blows Hot And Cool

Description

Considered one of the first bebop tenor saxophonists, Dexter Gordon started playing the clarinet at age seven. By fifteen, he was already playing with big names like Chico Hamilton and Buddy Collette. He then joined Lionel Hampton's and Louis Armstrong's orchestras in the 1940s, recorded with Charlie Parker, and was part of Billy Eckstine's band. Known for his distinctive and deep sound, this 1955 session features him in quartet and quintet, with Carl Perkins on piano, Leroy Vinnegar on bass, Chuck Thompson on drums, and Jimmy Robinson on trumpet.
