Darkenhöld emerged in 2008 as a trio composed of Aldébaran, Cervantes, and Aboth, with the ambition of creating melodic, epic, atmospheric Black Metal infused with the spirit of the 90s, from which the band has always drawn its primary influences. From the outset, the band's universe was established around a dreamlike medieval imaginary, exploring the deep forests, high mountains, and mysterious caves of southeastern France, where the band originates. The ancient stones of fortified castles, fantastic bestiaries, tales and legends, and the dense and complex landscapes of the Côte d'Azur are the sources of inspiration for a Black Metal that first made its mark with the release of two self-produced split-CDs in 2009, mixing covers with original compositions. Introducing the band's emblematic animal, the Wyvern, and laying the groundwork for its universe, they prepared the way for the release of their first album, "A passage to the towers...", which came out in 2010. The band then released a second album, promoted during a French tour, before introducing the French language in their third collection, "Castellum", which opened new horizons for them. The 2017 release of their fourth album, "Memoria Sylvarum," self-produced, saw the band gain access to larger stages, culminating in a well-received performance at Hellfest in 2018. The year 2020 marked another step with the band's signing to the "Les Acteurs de l'Ombre Productions" label and the release of their fifth album, "Arcanes et Sortilèges." After the COVID period, which halted the band's ascent, Darkenhöld resumed live activity in 2022 before beginning the composition of their sixth album, "Le Fléau du Rocher," to be released on June 6, 2025.
