CxBxT is a new collaborative project bringing together Japanese singer, songwriter and film director Tujiko Noriko, musician and composer Adrian Corker and percussionist George Barton. They took their first steps in the studio last summer in London. The six tracks that make up the new album ".After" were recorded in a day and a half, with some tracks subsequently overdubbed. Primarily recorded live by Ben Lockett with multiple microphones and effects chains, the improvised music comes from instruments already present in the studio, including a piano, percussion, various synths, as well as brought-in instruments such as shakuhachi, melodica, bass, guitar and sounds recorded and played on acetates. Corker and Tujiko initially recorded as a duo, then Barton added tuned percussion, drums and a musical saw. Corker then added field recordings made with sound engineer Chris Watson. The music turns and turns sometimes like a modernized Bauhaus, other times it has loose dub influences, shades of Japanese folk music, and the motoric rhythms of a 70s German band. "After" is a thrilling journey that is both organic and imperfect while merging with machines and mechanical processes.
