Fresques sur les parois secrètes du crâne is the second album from the duo Cheval de Frise, one of the most paradoxical groups rock has ever produced. An elusive album with baroque leanings, it was recorded at Black Box studio in 2002, then originally released on CD by the RuminanCe label in 2003. It is now being reissued by the New York label Computer Students™: the 10 tracks that make up the album have been remastered by Carl Saff for the occasion. Evoking both the cubist digressions of the most sophisticated jazz and the paroxysms of flamenco, simply by means of a nylon-string guitar flexing its muscles on the anvils of the darkest metal, Cheval de Frise composes a scared rock n' roll, very aesthetic yet half-ugly, with a transfigured ugliness. Transfigured by what? The question remains open, like almost all the questions that repeated listening to Fresques never stops raising.
