Formed in 2003 in the southern province of Limburg in the Netherlands, CARACH ANGREN has forged an unshakeable reputation by fusing the ferocity of black metal with the grandeur of symphonic arrangements and a keen sense of storytelling. Their work draws heavily from historical legends, fantastic tales, and the macabre, creating immersive universes on each album.
With ‘The Cult of Kariba,’ the band returns to the myth that first defined their identity on ‘Lammendam’ in 2008, expanding it into darker and more elaborate territory. This new EP unfolds as a five-part horror tale rooted in the folklore of the White Lady of Schinveld, now associated with the sinister figure of Kariba: a suspected poisoner and witch. Through haunting orchestrations, heightened aggression, and grandiose effects, the listener witnesses the rituals of a mysterious cult, a brutal sacrifice, Kariba's resurrection, and the ensuing vengeance. Each track builds on the last, from the ominous opener “A Malevolent Force Stirs” to the apocalyptic conclusion “Venomous 1666,” where the witch claims the living for her tomb.
Masterfully produced and unfolding a true concept, ‘The Cult of Kariba’ is both a return to roots and a bold expansion of CARACH ANGREN’s narrative universe.
