Many were waiting for the young Scottish prodigy around the corner with this second album. He replies that he is ready, again and always, to party - with no other ambition than to dance... and to make others dance. A successful bet with "Ready for the Weekend," which first has the merit of surprising, and does not fall into the unnecessary reissue of Calvin Harris's first album, the brilliant "I Created Disco" (2007). After disco, he tackles house. Forget the playful eighties production of his first album, Calvin Harris has clearly decided to turn the page and move on to the imposing machines of the 1990s. The relevance of the instrumentation can be felt: somewhat too surprising guitars, kitschy brass to the max, sometimes questionable choirs halfway between gospel and dance, a certain overuse of vocoders, etc. The whole can prove to be annoying. It is therefore hardly surprising that the reception of "Ready for the Weekend" is mixed... but can we really blame Calvin Harris for this cheeky move - as mischievous as it is legitimate? Especially since "Ready for the Weekend" is saved by potential hits like "Ready for the Weekend," "Blue," or "I'm Not Alone." Some tracks like the languorous "Burns Night" are also worth listening to, even savoring. Calvin Harris has not said his last word, and imposes himself, with disconcerting and undeniable ease, as a heavyweight of the dance floor and hedonistic electro. Not to the liking of the grumpy...
