The psychedelic Gnawa trance of Bab'L Bluz! Swaken is the second album from the Moroccan quartet Bab L' Bluz. Recorded at Real World Studios, the album leverages the songwriting, arrangement, and production talents of founding members Yousra Mansour and Brice Bottin. "Swaken," meaning "possession" in Darija, describes spirits that haunt humans. Sometimes associated with a transcendent musical experience, it implies a deep connection with the music, going beyond simple "trance" with highly agitated body movements. In Chaabi music, Swaken transcends our dimension, leading to Gnawa trance. Beyond simple possession, we wanted to use this term to highlight the obsession with ideas, values, and principles, expressing a determination to fight injustices and even challenge customs and traditions.
