Naked Truth is the freest and most radical record Avishai Cohen has ever recorded for ECM.
Naked Truth is essentially composed of pieces conceived and shaped in real time during an incredible recording session, the album presents itself as a kind of long improvised suite.
The Israeli trumpeter meticulously opens the way, closely followed by his longtime comrades — pianist Yonathan Avishai, double bassist Barak Mori and drummer Ziv Ravitz — who all respond collectively and instinctively to the multiple and subtle changes in direction taken by the music.
At the end of the album, Cohen recites 'Departure', a poem by Zelda Schneurson Mishkovsky, whose themes of renunciation, acceptance and letting go appear perfectly in tune with the music.
