For more than 20 years, singer/guitarist Michael Poulsen has spearheaded the Danish rock and roll machine Volbeat, which has released eight full-length albums, sold millions of records and filled stadiums worldwide. Before fronting Volbeat, Poulsen formed the death metal band Dominus, which recorded four fast and brutal albums in the mid-90s. When Poulsen wrote the songs for Volbeat's 2021 album, Servant of the Mind, he wrote a bunch of death metal riffs and saved them to his hard drive. Then, once the Volbeat album was finished, he reopened the rusted gates of Armageddon and started writing songs for his new death metal band, Asinhell, whose debut album, Impii Hora (unholy hour in Latin), is a tribute to Poulsen's favorite old-school bands. The songs are rooted in crushing riffs but injected with powerful guitar hooks and shout-along choruses.
