An album with a message and 60's pop sounds
This new Amber Arcades album was recorded in Los Angeles and co-produced with Chris Cohende Deerhoof, and in Richmond, Virginia with Trey Pollard (Natalie Prass, The Waterboys, Bedouine) who handled the strings and horns for Spacebomb. After her critically acclaimed debut album, Fading Lines, European Heartbreak takes a real step forward with 60's pop sounds oscillating between Berlin, Spain, and the South of France.
European Heartbreak focuses on the past, memory, and our tendency to fantasize about the events of our lives. When we actually examine our past, disillusionment is almost inevitable in the face of this shell of idealism. Tracks like 'Alpine Town', 'Oh My Love', 'Something's Gonna Take Your Love Away' and 'Goodnight Europe' perfectly evoke the committed themes of this second album. The album is all the more honest because it forces us to admit our own lies.
